The museum was founded in 1994 by artist and environmentalist Maendra Alvares. Ancestral Goa is also a cultural village showcasing the restoration of the Casa Araujo Alvares mansion and Indo-Portuguese household items. One of the highlights of Ancestral Goa is the enormous laterite sculpture of the saint-poetess Mirabai, which helped Maendra Alvares gain entry into the Limca Book of Records. 5. Houses of Goa Museum
